Komatsu Utilities Releases Fuel-Efficient Forklift

July 7, 2008

Komatsu Utilities is expected to release medium-size forklift models capable of reducing fuel costs by 20%, on August 1, 2008. 15 models of the 3.5 - 8.0 ton capacity forklift were redesigned with an installation of a computer-controlled high power clean diesel engine.

By meeting the Off-Road regulations environmental safety was enhanced. The company's original design for the model's new hydraulic pressure system enables the forklift to maintain its capabilities while drastically reducing fuel consumption.

Instead of traditional drum brakes, these new models are equipped with the enclosed wet disk braking system with high durability and virtually no maintenance costs. This reliable braking force adds to the safety of forklift operators. They are additionally equipped with an interlocking system, which automatically stops driving and loading when an operator leaves the seat. The retail price will be from 4.6 to 8.5 million yen. The annual production is expected to be 1,000.

The Komatsu Utilities is also planning to install a similar engine in smaller models of 0.9 to 3.5 ton forklifts which meet the Off-Road regulation standards with the aim of a market release date in late August.
