January Hokkaido Surimi Output Plunges 40% to 1,551 Tons

The National Surimi Manufacturers Association announced that six onshore surimi plants in Hokkaido yielded 1,551tons of frozen surimi (down 40 percent YOY) in January 2014, which includes surimi made of materials other than pollack. Pollack surimi came to 1,531 tons, down 37 percent, and Atka mackerel surimi was 20 tons, or down 85 percent.


The surimi inventory as of late January in Hokkaido reported by the association members amounted to 1,964 tons, a fall of 65 percent. Of which, pollack surimi dropped 67 percent to 1,793 tons and Atka mackerel was 171 tons, down 23 percent.


Hanwa Launches Company in Chile

Hanwa Co., Ltd. (President Hironari Furukawa) made an announcement January 25 on the launch of its local subsidiary in Santiago, Chile dated January 29. The new company began its operation March 1. The official name of the company is Hanwa Chile LTDA and it will be presided by Kozo Yamabe. Capital of USD 500,000 was invested. Riku Inoue is General Manager.


“Chile has strong potential of growth where we aim for region-based development by exploring business possibilities for mainly our salmon operation of the Food Products Division as well as other operations such as seafood, nonferrous metals, lumber, and steel,” the Company commented.
