Nichirei Logistics Group Leads Nichirei Group with Operating Profit Gain of 8.5 billion Yen

The three-year-old Nichirei Logistics Group earned 138.7 billion yen in
total sales and 8.5 billion yen in operating profit in the last previous term. The
company has been presenting a steady business growth since its split-up from
the Nichirei Group in 2005. With a slogan, “Work chosen continuously,” the
Nichirei Logistics Group has led the diversifying network industry in Japan and
courageously expanded its overseas operations in Europe and China.
The Nichirei Logistics Group consists of a total of 37 companies: nine
regional cold storage companies, four distribution network companies, nine
overseas companies, and one engineering company.
The three-year midterm business plan from 2007 thru 2009 has been
implemented. Total sales volume was 116.7 billion yen and operating profit was
5.2 billion yen in the business year of 2004. In the last business term, the
company amazingly attained extra 22 billion yen in total sales and 3.3 billion yen
in operating profit. The company’s operating profit exceeds more than a half of
that of the Nichirei Group, which is 50.5%.
Overseas ventures in Europe and China, among others, have exhibited
such a strong growth; transportation and customs clearance business based at
the port of Rotterdam, Netherland, has shown tremendous productivity.
Additionally, storage business has been stable and recovery of the receiving of
fruit juice has contributed to the company’s further growth. The company has
currently been beefing up the business system and planning to expand its
distribution bases in Poland for its business expansion in Eastern Europe.
The company’s effort in Shanghai to improve its profit gain is aggressive
operational performance, intensification of cargo, and out-and-out cost control.
Saury TAC Revision from 390,000 to 450,000 Tons

The Resource Management Committee of Fisheries Policy Council
submitted a revision on the saury TAC (Total Allowable Catch) for this year to
Fishery Agency on June 6, 2008. The revision includes additional allocations to
the ministerial and gubernatorial management amounts.
The saury TAC was revised from 396,000 to 455,000 tons; the ministerial
management amount was changed from 300,000 to 350,000 tons; the Hokkaido
gubernatorial management amount was increased from 51,000 to 58,000 tons;
and the Iwate gubernatorial management amount rose from 6,000 to 8,000 tons.
Additionally, in terms of revision on snow crab having the TAC amount of
7,793 tons, the ministerial management amount increased from 4,999 to 5,874
tons; the Hokkaido gubernatorial management amount of the C water district,
Western Hokkaido, went up from zero to 43 tons; the ministerial management
amount of the D water district, the Okhotsk Sea, moved up from zero to 875 tons;
and the Hokkaido gubernatorial management amount of the same water district
was revised from zero to 125 tons.
